日本之行 ~ 17。08 [金曜日] ～ 制紙工坊 Day 1

「阿波和紙 Awagami Factory」第36屆的夏日制紙工坊正式開始。

Day 1
21 participants (from 11 countries) began preparing the kozo fiber by stripping the bark layers to get the good papermaking fibers .... then washed and cooked.

三部曲 ：撥皮，清洗， 水煮





Using a knife, we peeled/stripped the green and brown layers from the white one. We would only work with the white layer, the other two were kept for other usage.

Finished stripping the kozo black barks.

Then washed and cooked the barks in boiling water with soda carbonate/ash to remove the lignin. Lignin is the material that causes paper to get a yellow tint when exposed to oxygen over time.
